| The island has
its own quaint mixture of proper British and
earthy African. Features of both cultures blend to form
Barbados own cultural stamp on the Caribbean
landscape. The primary revenue earner remains sugar,
although Barbados has a multi million dollar tourism
industry that now complements the sugar trade. This is a
sporting island, with cricket the passion and football
(soccer) almost as big. Music is entrenched in the
culture, with calypso, reggae and various fusions of
these genres dominating the club scene. |
| Barbados has been my home
since 1975. I have watched it develop into the
cosmopolitan and modernized nation it is today. Yet you
can still travel through the windy rural roads and see
the islands quaint, sleepy, back-in-time character
that so attracted me 20 years ago. |

Eric was lured to Barbados
by our Internet relationship. However, his keen interest
in diving, underwater photography and the Caribbean
generally, made it easy for him to take an almost instant
liking to the island. Since his final arrival in April,
he has adjusted to Caribbean lifestyle both good and bad
unusually well. |
